THE STUDIO

Ideas are only the beginning.

A STUDIO BUILT AROUND THE IDEA

MXN DESIGN is an independent architectural design-and-build studio based in the Ribble Valley.

Led by designer and maker Max, the studio creates one-off spaces, structures, interiors and objects for hospitality and private clients.

The work begins with an idea, but it does not stop at the drawing. Materials, fabrication, lighting, joinery, construction and atmosphere are considered together — because the person designing something should understand how it will actually be made.

DESIGNER. MAKER. BUILDER.

Maximilian has spent years designing and constructing spaces, furniture, lighting and architectural objects by hand.

This direct relationship with materials shapes the way MXN DESIGN works. Ideas are tested physically, details are resolved through making, and unusual solutions are developed rather than selected from a catalogue.

The result is architecture that feels individual because it has been considered from the first sketch to the final fixing.

SMALL BY DESIGN

MXN DESIGN remains intentionally independent.

Rather than applying the same team or formula to every commission, we bring together the right combination of engineers, consultants, fabricators and specialist craftspeople around the particular needs of each project.

This keeps the process personal, flexible and focused — with one clear design language running through the whole.

ROOTED IN THE RIBBLE VALLEY

MXN DESIGN grew from a place where ideas can be tested, built and lived with.

Surrounded by fields, woodland and animals, the studio has a direct relationship with landscape, weather and material — a constant reminder that good design should belong to its setting, rather than simply occupy it.

This is where structures are developed at full scale, materials are allowed to weather, lighting is tested after dark and details are refined through use.

That connection to place shapes the work: calm, tactile, atmospheric and always slightly unexpected.

Let’s make something that does not exist yet

Let’s discuss what it could become.

See it for yourself.

Come and experience the place behind the pictures.

Our Ribble Valley base is more than a studio — it is a small design village of cabins, workshops, stables and outdoor spaces, each with its own character.

Everything shown here has been designed and built by Knowhaus — not simply rendered on a screen. Photographs can only tell part of the story.
