UNEXPECTED SPACES, STRUCTURES AND OBJECTS—DESIGNED AND BUILT IN THE RIBBLE VALLEY
MXN DESIGN is an independent architectural design-and-build studio creating one-off projects for private and hospitality clients across the UK
ABOUT MXN DESIGN
SIGNATURE FORMS INDIVIDUAL COMMISSIONS
Based at Knowhere Farm in the Ribble Valley, MXN DESIGN is an independent architectural design-and-build studio led by designer and maker Maximilian Stummer.
The studio creates distinctive spaces, structures and objects for private clients and hospitality settings. Its work includes signature designs such as the PLUVIA luxury outdoor shower room and the sculptural NOCTURNE hospitality suite, alongside entirely bespoke interiors and sculptural lighting pieces such as DNA.
Each commission is shaped around its setting, purpose and atmosphere. Signature designs can be individually adapted through materials, colour, interior detailing and site-specific additions, while fully bespoke projects begin from a blank page. Design, fabrication and practical problem-solving are brought together under one roof.
NOCTURNE — a work inspired by the night; an architectural retreat shaped by darkness, light and atmosphere.
SELECTED PROJECTS & STORIES
NOCTURNE
ARCHITECTURE & HOSPITALITY
A sculptural, transportable hospitality suite designed and built in the Ribble Valley. Behind NOCTURNE’s distinctive exterior is a complete interior with a kitchen, marble bathroom, mezzanine bedroom and individually designed architectural details.
Created as a one-off commission, it demonstrates MXN DESIGN’s ability to bring architecture, interiors and practical construction together within one remarkable structure.
PLUVIA — Latin for rain; an architectural room created around water, privacy and outdoor bathing.
PLUVIA
OUTDOOR LIVING & WELLNESS
PLUVIA reimagines the outdoor shower as a complete private room. Fully enclosed and insulated, it brings together hot water, heating, changing space, architectural lighting and sound within one transportable structure.
Developed as an MXN DESIGN signature form, each PLUVIA can be individually adapted through colour, materials, interior detailing and landscaping to suit its client and setting.
DNA OF LIGHT — an architectural interpretation of the human double helix, with light at its core representing life—the spark of God.
DNA of light
SCULPTURAL LIGHTING & OBJECTS
DNA is an architectural interpretation of the human double helix. It is formed from 32 stacked layers, each with eight edges—256 individual edges in total. The lower and upper halves turn in opposite directions, creating the opposing twist of two interwoven strands.
Warm light travels through its centre like a living core. For its creator, it represents life itself—the spark of God held within the physical form.
Created as a one-off piece, DNA exists between sculpture, architecture and illumination, revealing the more symbolic and experimental side of MXN DESIGN.
